In collaboration with SGS, one of world’s largest inspection companies, an inspection of an FPSO was carried out offshore Angola. A floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit is a floating vessel used by the offshore oil and gas industry for the production and processing of hydrocarbons, and for the storage of oil.
A two-man team from Skeye travelled to Angola. Their first objective was to obtain the permits from the local violation authority to fly a drone. In addition, the drones had to be inspected and test flown in the company of representatives from the CAA. Once all permissions were in place the team was completed by an experienced inspection engineer from SGS.
The FPSO inspected is one of world’s largest and measures close to 300 meters in length. During several days, a close visual inspection was carried out using a variety of drones of all most critical elements of the FPSO that are normally difficult to reach such as the flare stack.
